Before Ella passed away she created a document of her family history. The following is her story:

My parents are Richard and Nora Huber.

My dad's parents are Simon and Amelia (Molly) Huber nee Senger.

My mom's parents are Frank and Barbara Hubick nee Massier.

Grandpa Huber immigrated to Canada in 1904 from Bukovina, Austia-Hungary with his mom and dad Simon and Martha Huber 5 brothers and 2 sisters.

Grandpa Hubick (b. September 15, 1888 d. September 1, 1954) immigrated to Canada in 1906 with his mom and dad Karl and Maria Hubick, 1 brother and 2 sisters from Chernovitz Bukovina, Austria. Grandma Hubick (b. April 10, 1893 d. April 16, 1969) was born in Bucharest, Romania and was married in Canada in 1910.

Grandpa Huber settled on a farm 10 miles north of Earl Grey Saskatchewan and Grandpa Hubick settled on a farm 10 miles north of Southey. Across land my grandparents lived 9 miles apart.

My dad had 7 sisters (Minnie died infancy, Therese died 1 month old, Emma, Martha, Vera died 1 week old, Margaret, Molly) and 7 brothers (William, Fred, Martin, Jacob, Edmund died 9 months old, Edward, Edmund).

My mom had 5 sisters (Clara, Minnie died infancy, Carrie, Martha, Irene) and 8 brothers (Adam, Joe, Charlie, Herman, Jacob, George, Ernest, Harold).

My parents got married September 29, 1932 in a double wedding ceremony with my mom's sister Clara and Tony Ollinger. They got married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Mom and dad's first farm was about a mile east of grandpa Huber's farm.

I was born October 25, 1933 in my grandpa and grandma Hubick's house. My birth certificate reads Sec. 24, Tp 24, Rge 19, W2nd.

My parents moved to a farm west of Raymore. I remember having a sheep dog, he was black and white, and his name was "Towser". My mom said he followed me everywhere, so she always knew wherever I was, just by calling his name he would come and so would I.

My brother Harold Allen was born May 19, 1938, at the same farm house of grandpa and grandma Hubick's. Harold died December 2, 1990 of a heart attack. He was 52 years old. He married Norma Taylor, August 26, 1961. Had 2 children David and Bonnie.

Mom and dad gave up farming and moved into Regina in 1938. They rented a house on 9 block Edgar, then a little while later they moved to a house on 20 block Lindsay (SE side). I was told I could only speak German when we moved into Regina so I imagine starting school may have been a bit of a problem for me. I started school; went to Wetmore. We moved again; to 10 block Broder and I attended Haultain school. It seemed every time we moved we had a little nicer home. We always rented. My dad was a truck driver: he worked for BA and Imperial Oil.

When I was in grade 4 we moved again, to a house on 20 block Lindsay (NW side), so I went to Wetmore school once again.

Grandpa Huber always picked me up as soon as school was out for the summer. I spent my whole 2 months at both grandparents' farms. Went to school with them if school wasn't out yet. Havlock school if at if at grandpa and grandma Huber's, Coynack school if at grandpa and grandma Hubick's. At grandpa Huber's I had 2 aunts close to my age: Molly and Margaret. We would play house in the bushes, and we would sneak and crawl in grandma's garden and take carrots, peas, strawberries (anything eatable) for our food. We helped grandma churn butter, took turns with washing machine to make the clothes swish back and forth, we milked cows, gathered eggs, fed the chickens and pigs. We stooked in the hot sun. We bathed in a barrel that had rain water in it. It was all fun. We were able to go to sports days around the vicinities of Havelock, Hazelwood, church picnics. The whole family went. Molly, Margaret and I competed in a lot of different races and it seemed all 3 of us would come in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. We came home with more money than what we went with. When we were teenagers we played softball and also were allowed to go to the dances with my uncles, both sides of the family. Went to church to Serath Lutheran Church with the Huber clan.

When I went to grandma and grandpa Hubicks' for holidays I also had 2 aunts that were close to my age: Irene and Martha. Went to Zion Lutheran Church known as North Southey Church. The first thing I would do was go to the manure pile and pick mushrooms. Grandma would fry them with butter and salt: Oh so delicious. One time I ate too much and got sick to my stomach, but that didn't stop me from picking and eating more. I went to school with them if school wasn't out yet (Coynack School).

The Hubick family were very musical. Martha and Irene could harmonize so well together. The girls played organ and guitar. My 2 uncles Herman and Ernest played guitar and accordion. They played all old time music (polkas, waltzes, fox trots, shoteeses). They played a lot of barn dances, schools, halls and wedding dances. When my aunts and I got older we were allowed to go to some of the dances with them. Sometimes we got home 4 in the morning.

Grandpa and grandma Hubick had Shetland ponies. Their names were Dixie and Modie. We rode on them to school. Coynack school. Went to church to Zion Lutheran Church. I had to wear a hat. They always found a hat for me to wear, for I never had a hat. Grandpa Huber bought a farm near Gibbs, Saskatchewan (When I was in grade 7). He asked my dad if he would like to farm it, my dad accepted the offer, so we moved out to the farm. I went to Sprayville School in Gibbs for a year and a half. (Lived on the farm 2 summers and 1 winter). After one year and a half on the farm, my dad decided that farming wasn't for him, so we moved back to Regina, he preferred to be a truck driver. We moved into a house on 7 block Elphinstone. I finished 2 months of my grade 8 at Kitchener school. We moved to 12 block Wallace. Dad drove gravel truck for Dormuth and Zalusky. Mom worked for Sam's Restaurant on 17 block Rose. I went to Balfour and Harold went to Haultain and then he went to Scott for high school. Mom and dad bought their first home on 5 block Lorne and resided there until they retired and moved into Pioneer Village June 30, 1975.

Dad died shortly after on May 3, 1976. He was 65.

Mom died April 2, 2000. She was 86. Mom moved into Pioneer Village, Apt 401 August 19, 1976 , Apt 403 May 30, 1983. Mom moved into Regina Lutheran Home ???, 1995.

I went to Balfour Tech. I took a matriculation course (Typing, shorthand and bookkeeping). While at Balfour I was able to do part time work. I went from 8:00am to 1:00pm so afternoons were free. I worked part time for a press company, 'Peerless Printers'. I sorted out pages, they were then stapled to put a book together. We weren't able to talk to the person next to us. The boss was very stern and strict. I then got a job with Sohio Petroleum (an American oil co.). When I was in grade 10 I wanted to quit school, but my boss (Brian Abbott) talked me into going for another year of school. So I took grade 11 but I didn't like it. I preferred working.
